This march is to pay Respect to ALL BLACK LIVES lost due to gun-violence in our community, by our community. This is NOT a Black Lives Matter event. This is a “WE GOTTA TAKE CARE OF US” event. Black people in Tulsa have been have been killed by people who look like each other. Our community as a whole has yet to give the proper respect to those lives lost. We’re changing that now! Their lives mattered too! We’re paying our respects and bringing a solution to the problem..
Everyone who has lost a friend, loved-one, or family member, due to gun violence within our community will get a chance to say their name. The entire crowd will repeat their name in unison and say “(victims name’s) life mattered to us”
For continued effectiveness beyond this march we are building our youth mentoring program "Block Bennies" or "Block Benefactors" who will do the mentoring work right in the most effected community.
We will start at the parking lot of Solid Foundation Prep and march to Chamberlin Park for the Respect Ceremony, announcements and food. After guest speakers we will introduce our mentoring program and 5-point initiative to combat the gun-violence in our community. Closing out with our community pledge for unity.
The last Black on Black Respect March was a huge success! We honored the lives of our lost family members, because we are all family and their lives mattered. We pledged unity to each other and recruited many potential mentors! If you missed it you can still get involved, we have monthly community events and we need your involvement! We Gotta Take Care Of Us
